Fall & Winter 2024/2025: Mural Highlights

From the San Fernando Valley to Ventura County, Muralism Artists have been working with students to transform their campuses into vibrant canvases that inspire, educate, and unite. This past fall/winter season, we completed seven murals across elementary schools, middle schools, and even a college campus—each one celebrating creativity, inclusion, and student voices.

Thanks to our partners, donors, and incredible artists, over 550 students had the opportunity to participate in mural painting during school and after-school sessions. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to!

Andasol Elementary 2025

Andasol Elementary – “Columns of Character”
100+ K–5 students joined the team in painting bright hibiscus flowers framing the school’s core values: Citizenship, Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Faithfulness and Caring.

Chandler Elementary 2025

Chandler Elementary – “College Celebration”
Over 120 K-12 students helped cover an old and faded mural with a new scene celebrating the dream of a higher education. The mural features local college logos to encourage college-going culture from an early age.

Bret Harte Elementary 2025

Bret Harte Elementary – “Lombardo Memorial Bench”
This heartfelt memorial to a beloved kindergarten teacher, Karyn Lombardo, was inspired by her favorite book, The Giving Tree. It was made possible by funds and volunteers from the school community and painted on a bench donated by the City of Burbank.

Portola Middle School 2025

Portola Middle School – “Reaching for the Stars”
Students learned about the solar system as they painted a mural featuring Sally Ride, an alumni of the school. Capturing the limitless possibilities of learning, over 130 students participated across two student paint days on this colorful mural.

Osceola Street Elementary 2025

Osceola Elementary – “Voices that Changes our History"
This bold mural features Kamala Harris, Karen Bass, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Rigoberta Menchú Tum, and beloved Osceola teacher Dr. Theresa Derchan. Over 130 young students participated in filling in the vibrant colors.

San Jose Elementary 2025

San Jose Elementary – “Teddy Character Columns”
Kindergarteners and after-school students painted vibrant columns featuring their schools mascot, each representing the best character traits. This project also includes four handball courts and the restoration of an existing mural.

Ventura College 2025

Ventura College – “100 Years of Excellence”
This mural was designed by VC alumnist, Andrew Rodriguez, and led by Project Manager, Jennifer Love, honors the college’s centennial. For two days college students learned about and participated in mural painting from the Muralism team.

What Inclusion Looks Like in Action

“I absolutely love this program! Our students are able to participate in such a beautiful mural with their [General] Ed peers and it makes them feel good. Plus art is one of their strong features… they love art…And there's hardly any programs like this so I appreciate it.”
— Hector Martinez, Teacher, Special Education, Madison Middle School
