Join us for one of the most enjoyable events of the year— the Carpinteria Chalk Walk! Muralism artists will be on hand, creating promotional chalk murals for local businesses, and everyone is invited to unleash their creativity and create their own masterpieces with a free box of chalk.
In 2020, Muralism, the City of Carpinteria, and the Lynda Fairly Carpinteria Arts Center (LFCAC) launched a collaborative effort known as “Mask Up Carp”. Muralism, with its mission to connect people with special needs to the community through art, partnered with LFCAC, a nonprofit dedicated to creating a vibrant community through the arts. Together, along with the support of Two Trumpets Communications and Carp Beautiful volunteers, we organized a successful event in just 30 days. With 70 participants covering Linden Avenue in vibrant colors and encouraging visitors to mask up, the inaugural year was a testament to community spirit. Last year, we brought back the event as Carp Chalk Walk, with 368 participants filling the streets with unique works of art. This year, the Carp Chalk Walk Team is back, collaborating once again to offer this free event to residents and visitors of all ages and abilities. We aim to increase artist participation by 20% and enhance business involvement by creating chalk-by-number logos for all businesses, providing them with chalk to encourage their staff and customers to join the fun. With the support of the City of Carpinteria and the Downtown T Business Advisory Board, we're we are making this event even more inclusive by inviting organizations like the Alpha Resource Center, Carpinteria People’s Self-Help Housing via the LFCAC Bellas Artes, Girls Inc., and the “Abuelos” program at Carpinteria Children's Project to participate. Mark your calendars and get ready to chalk up some fun at the Carpinteria Chalk Walk! |

At Carpinteria Middle School, fostering an inclusive and nurturing environment for academic excellence and social-emotional well-being is paramount. As Principal Lisa O’Shea aptly puts it, "Together we can create a strong partnership that nurtures students’ growth and success." This sentiment rings true in our recent collaboration with Carpinteria Beautiful and Jennifer Medina, the after-school coordinator.
Together, we embarked on a project to breathe life into a drab planter wall, turning it into a vibrant work of art. Joined by the passionate volunteers of Carpinteria Beautiful, led by President Brian Mootz, we set out to make a difference. Brian emphasizes, "Every Carpinteria Beautiful project begins with a good idea and someone willing to see it through." This year, that someone was Robert Stokes, a former teacher and the deserving recipient of the Carp Beautiful Volunteer of the Year award. His vision sparked action to tend to the planters, prepare the soil, put in plants, and prime the cement.
With our mobile studio in tow, the Muralism team arrived armed with a palette of paint, brushes, aprons, and drop cloths. Together with the dedicated Carp Beautiful volunteers and eager students from the school, we painted the planters, offering a unique "Bug's Eye" view of Carpinteria. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the entire Medina Family for their unwavering support. Indeed, as the saying goes, "The family that paints together stays together." This project exemplifies the power of collaboration, community spirit, and the transformative impact of art. Together, we've not only beautified a space but also forged lasting bonds and inspired future generations. |

| Muralism's impact extends far beyond our own murals—it's about leaving a lasting imprint on communities. While this project might not contribute to our goal of 100 murals by 2028, it marks another milestone for art in LA, thanks to Muralism.
Although officially dedicated on November 10th, 2022, this mural, titled "Futurescape," was actually brought to life over two days in June 2001—June 16th and 17th, to be exact. A collective effort led by artists Susan Krieg, Dover Abrams, Mindy Allen, Barbara Freeman, Anita Hamlin, Gegam Khacheryan, K McCulloch, Mike Neither, Gayle Ray, Hector Ponce, Juan Pablo, and Daniel Wooster envisioned the future development of the North Hollywood skyline.
The artists painted images of indigenous culture, agriculture, state history, and industry. Overlayed across all of the panels is a blueprint for what we would become. This masterpiece was created to commemorate the opening of the North Hollywood Metro Station during a festival celebrating its inauguration on June 18th, 2001. However, for two decades, it remained stored in Ken Banks' Garage, President of The NoHo Community Forum, who held onto hope that it would one day find a home. In 2022, through a collaboration between the NOHO Community Forum and Muralism, that dream became reality. Muralism Artists rescued the panels and applied a protective clear coat, while local business Casa Mexicana provided expertise in welding to construct the framework, designed by the Muralism Team, ensuring the panels' preservation for years to come. Council President Paul Krekorian's team facilitated the arrangements to house this treasure in the NoHo Arts District. Today, the panels adorn the Weddington House, a Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument representing the area's pioneer family, now fully restored and accessible to the public. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was a celebration of community collaboration, with members of the North Hollywood Neighborhood Council, local city officials, Casa Mexicana workers, Muralism Artists, and community members coming together to commemorate this beautiful addition to our cultural landscape. |

Meet Cia Atkins, a remarkable artist and valued member of the Muralism Crew. Cia's journey with us began when Hands for Hope, a nonprofit organization she grew up with, received a Muralism mural gift from Endemol Shine, a local reality show production company. Hands for Hope entrusted two talented artists from their organization to collaborate with Muralism in designing a mural that reflected their unique after-school program. Cia was one of those artists, and somehow, she found herself jumping aboard the Muralism Van—and has been with us ever since.
From a young age, Cia was diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), which presented challenges in staying focused and drawing straight lines. However, with Muralism, Cia not only realized a lifelong dream of becoming a muralist but also gained the skills and confidence to draw those straight lines. Setting a personal goal to design and paint 50 murals of her own, Cia's determination and talent inspire us all. We have full confidence that this incredible artist will surpass this goal and continue to leave a mark on our communities.
Every year, Muralism reaches over 1,000 students from various school districts and disability service organizations throughout Southern California. Through immersive Community Paint Days, these students have the opportunity to learn directly from Muralism Artists, like Cia, igniting their passion for art and creativity.
Will you join us in supporting the next generation of artists? Your contribution will help us inspire another 1,000 young minds next year and continue our mission of fostering creativity, inclusion, and community through art. |

You Help Make Muralism Possible |
|
|
Thanks to your invaluable support, Muralism has achieved remarkable milestones. With over 70 murals painted, preferred vendor status in multiple school districts, a thriving chalk festival in Carpinteria, and over 60 DOT boxes beautifying cities like Winnetka, Valley Village, and Laurel Grove, we're are well on our way to exceeding 100 mural projects by the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
In the coming months, we already have 15 more mural projects scheduled, providing essential work for our crew and valuable learning opportunities for apprentice artists. Your generosity has played a vital role in these accomplishments.
But our journey doesn't end here. We're committed to training even more muralists and supporting deserving nonprofits that lack the resources for mural projects. This is where you come in. Would you consider gifting a mural to an organization of your choice? Do you know a uniquely abled artist that want to learn to earn? Or perhaps your team could benefit from a meaningful team-building day with us. Join Muralism today by making a donation, referring a friend, or picking up a brush and painting alongside us. Together, let's continue to spread creativity, community, and connection through art. Thank you for being a valued member of the Muralism family. |
